AECI Property Services, a division of AECI—an integrated chemical services and solutions company in South Africa—is offering a fixed-term learnership opportunity for an Assistant Boiler Operator Learner at its Umbogintwini site in KwaZulu-Natal. The successful candidate will support boiler operations by adhering to safety procedures, maintaining boiler equipment and auxiliaries, and assisting with chemical loading and offloading. Under the supervision of Senior Boiler Operators, the learner will also help manage product storage tanks, participate in an 8-week theoretical training program at the Shukela Training Centre, and demonstrate consistent progress toward completing the learnership competencies. Applicants must have a Grade 12 with Mathematics and Science/NQF qualifications, be physically fit, capable of working in confined spaces and at heights, and willing to work rotational shifts after a three-month probation period. A driver’s license and basic process plant knowledge are advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Boiler learner must follow safety procedures and regulations to ensure safe operations of the boilers and associated systems
• Responsible for the housekeeping /maintenance of the boiler ad associated auxiliaries
• Learner will work under the supervision of Senior Boiler Operator team, and follow their instructions as when required
• Learner will have to maintain various product storage tanks and report any deviations to Boiler Operators on shift
• Learner will be responsible to loading and offloading sodium and chemicals for process
• Participate in the formal training plan for the learner ship; make reasonable progress to achieve the competencies in this regard; attend the necessary training or assessments related hereto
• Perform duties required and make reasonable progress to achieve the competencies in the training plan
• To attend any training or assessment related to the boiler training plan; (Shukela Training Centre) approximately 8 weeks theoretical and regulations
• Keep the training record up to date, and produce it to the employer and/or training organisation, when requested
• Adhere to Health, Safety and Environmental procedures, work instructions, guidelines, regulations / legislation and programs & proactive action to identify and correct potential unsafe conditions and acts
• Must be able to work on a rotational shift roster after 3 months’ probation, if the candidate declare competency

Qualifications

• Matric / Grade 12 with Mathematics and Science/NQF Levels
• Driver’s license will be added advantage
• Basic understanding of process plant and the importance of maintenance
• Must be able to obtain health clearance to work in a chemical environment
• Must be willing and have interest in Boiler Plant Operations
• Must be able to use basic hand tools
• Must be physical fit
• Must work a heights, confined spaces and inclement weather conditions
